The 2023 UNU-WIDER Annual Report celebrates the end of the 2019–23 work programme. UNU-WIDER has achieved significant milestones in research, partnership, and global engagement over the last five years. The institute produced more than 800 working papers, hosted numerous global forums, and synthesized insights from over 30 research projects into a key report that addresses the universal goals of peace, equality, and decent work.

This year's report not only showcases these achievements but also thanks the UNU-WIDER team, its wide network of experts, and its partners for their dedication and contributions. The report highlights the institute's research in sub-Saharan Africa and its reach across the Global South, with a feature on research done over the years in two countries focus countries: Ecuador and Indonesia. These achievements underline UNU-WIDER's role in driving global dialogue and shaping policy with thorough research and engagement.

As UNU-WIDER moves to its next work programme focusing on promoting creating fiscal space for development, reducing inequalities, and fostering sustainable peace, the report reaffirms its commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and its determination to address some of the world's most urgent challenges.
